Moong Dhal Sambar - Dosa side dish

Moong dhal - 1 cup
Onion - cut lengthwise
Tomato - 1 chopped
Green chillies - 4-5
Potato - 1 medium cut into small pieces
Turmeric - 1/2 spoon
Salt to taste
Curry leaves - A few
Mustard seeds - 1/2 spoon
Asafoetida - A pinch
Oil - 1 Tbsp
Coriander leaves for garnishing
Method:
1. Heat oil in a pan and once hot add the mustard seeds, curry leaves and Asafoetida
2. Add the onion and fry till transparent, followed by green chillies and tomatoes. Fry till the tomatoes are soft
3. Add turmeric, salt and potatoes, followed by the cleaned moong dhal
4. Add 3 cups of water, the quantity of water can be increased depending on the consistancy you prefer
5. Cook till the dhal is cooked, or for faster cooking pressure cook for 10 minutes Garnish with corriander leaves. Serve hot with Idlis or Dosa
A delicious side dish for idli or dosa. This recipe is a traditional South Indian variation of sambar with moong dhal, very simple, quick and easy to cook
