Beaten Rice Savory / Aval Upma / Rice flakes Upma

Ingredients
Rice flakes (thick variety) - 4 cups
Oil - 2 tablespoons
Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
Blackgram dhal - 1 teaspoon
Green chilli (finely chopped ) - 2
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Big onions (finely sliced) - 2
Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Chopped coriander leaves - 4 tablespoons
Salt to taste
Preparing Method
1. Wash the rice flakes in water thoroughly. Drain and Keep aside
2. Heat the oil in a pan. Add the mustard and Blackgram dhal. Fry till they crackle
3. Add the green chillies and curry leaves. Add the onions and turmeric powder. Stir-fry on medium / low level flame for about 4 minutes
4. Add the chopped fresh coriander and stir-fry briefly till they wilt
5. Mix in the rice flakes and salt to taste. Mix in a few tablespoons of water into the beaten rice. Cover and cook on low flame till the water has been absorbed by the rice flakes. Do not overcook the rice flakes as it tends to harden. Keep covered for a few minutes before serving
Serve hot with tomato sauce or Coconut chutney
