World Tamil Meet - 2010
Coimbatore: An estimated Rs 300 crore would be spent for infrastructure development around the city which is gearing up to host the World Tamil classical conference from June 23 - 2010, Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin said.
The City corporation, town and village panchayats have been asked to submit proposals for infrastructure development and all expenses for the conference would be borne only by the State government, Stalin told reporters here.
However, the estimate for developmental works in the city would be announced by chief minister, M Karunanidhi, he said.
Stalin, who visited various venues of the events, to be held as part of the five-day Conference, said work on the first phase of the proposed Mega Botanical Park, announced by Karunanidhi, would begin soon in 93.2 acres of vacant land in the 165-acre Central Prison here.
The jail would be shifted and two to three places were being considered, he said,adding that the city bus stand would also get a facelift. All the works would be completed on a warfooting, he said.
