Vasantham Nagar residents want amenities
Coimbatore: Residents of Vasantham Nagar at Venkittapuram in Sai Baba Colony recently planted saplings in a bid to enhance green cover and also voiced their grievances relating to civic amenities to Mayor R. Venkatachalam.
The Residents’ Welfare Association organised an interaction with the police and the Corporation to get their civic and security related issues resolved.
The function was also attended by Assistant Commissioner of Police Muthuraj and Inspector Nehru.
K. Deveraj, president of the Association, said that the residents wanted to plant saplings and nurture them to make the colony the best place to live. The Mayor planted the first sapling.
Later, the residents pointed out the lack of various civic amenities in the area to the Mayor.
They wanted a proper drainage system, which had been eluding them for the last five years and said that open drains and choking had resulted in unhygienic environment and mosquito breeding.
The Association appealed to the Mayor to help put up a rainwater harvesting facility near the colony and to prevent water logging and stagnation during rainy days.
The residents urged the civic body to install more street lights. The Association thanked the civic body for agreeing to put up an overhead water tank.
To avoid trespassing and crimes in the colony, the Association decided to join hands with the police in installing drop gates to turn the colony into a secured gated community
