COIMBATORE: Three flyovers will come up in the Coimbatore after the World Classical Tamil Conference in June, Mayor R. Venkatachalam said at the Coimbatore Corporation Council meeting on Friday.

The announcement by the Mayor was a form of assurance to the members who called for flyovers to reduce congestion on the city's roads.

Touching upon various development issues, Deputy Mayor N. Karthik said subways for pedestrians were needed at Gandhipuram, Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, Peelamedu and some busy stretches of Tiruchi Road.

He also called for flyovers at all busy junctions.

Officials, however, clarified that there was no plan for a flyover over Cross-Cut Road, a prominent shopping zone.

The proposal under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission was for a flyover from Dr. Nanjappa Road to Sathyamangalam Road.

There was another proposal for a flyover near Kikani School, to connect Brooke Bond Road with Ram Nagar.

But, there was no proposal for a flyover on Cross-Cut Road, they said.
