The Hindu MetroPlus cookery challenge on February 14
Coimbatore: The Hindu MetroPlus, along with Gangotree Sweets, in association with the Department of Catering Science and Hotel Management of SNR Sons College, organises a cookery challenge.
Cooks, young and old (over 18 years of age) are invited to take part in the culinary contest to be held on Valentine’s Day on February 14 at SNR Sons College.
Participants can collect the free registration forms from Gangotree Sweets, located behind Nilgiris at Number 1, Jhampala House, Race Course.
The competition is restricted to only 250 contestants and the registration is on first come, first served basis. No spot registrations will be entertained. Contestants will be asked to present themselves in batches of 50 at the time given in their registration forms. Please note that the organisers will provide them only with a gas burner, a worktable, water and volunteers to assist them. Everything else needed to cook and present the dishes will have to be brought to the venue by the contestants.
The rules are as follows:
Only one vegetarian dish is to be prepared by each contestant
If using vegetables, the vegetables should be chopped and prepared at the venue
Ground masalas can be prepared and brought from home
The portion should be enough to serve two people
Each contestant will get 45 minutes to prepare and present his or her dish
The budget for the preparation should not exceed Rs. 150.
All cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery, knives, chopping boards, and serving spoons, etc. will have to be brought by the contestant. The entries will be judged on taste, presentation, nutrition and originality. An eminent panel of judges will decide the winners. The prizes will be given away the same evening at the venue.
The first prize is worth Rs. 5,000; the second prize is worth Rs. 3,000 and the third prize is worth Rs. 2,000. There will be seven attractive consolation prizes.
