Tamil meet: Online painting contest held
Coimbatore: Online painting contest of scenes from Tamil literature for school students at Coimbatore in connection with the World Classical Tamil Conference was inaugurated by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi through video conferencing.
The Chief Minister interacted with Collector P. Umanath who was at the inaugural ceremony in Coimbatore which was presided by Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy, Mayor R. Venkatachalam and Managing Trustee of PSG Institutions G. Rangasamy.
More than 10,000 students are taking part in the contests organised in over 33 engineering colleges and more than 1,000 students are taking part from Coimbatore alone.
Students from Standard Six to Standard X were asked to choose a scene based on a theme from Thirukkural and ‘Aathichoodi’ and should complete the same in 45 minutes.
There would be contests at the individual as well as group level.
Students from Standard 11 and Standard 12 could choose a topic from the literatures such as Bharathiar songs, Bharathidasan songs or from Kalaingar’s Sanga Tamil and present an animation using the computer software and should complete the same in 60 minutes. The trial run for the contests was done on Thursday by the Minister for Information Technology, Poongothai Aladi Aruna. The objective of the contest was to popularise Tamil literature among the student community and also to ensure that Tamil literature was ensured a place in the world and era of computers on a par with English language.
