Tamil meet: Arrangements for cultural programmes and exhibition reviewed
Coimbatore: The arrangements being done for the conduct of cultural programmes and exhibition to highlight the rich cultural heritage of Tamil language and race during the World Classical Tamil Conference in June was reviewed on Friday.
Rajya Sabha MP, Kanimozhi, Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu, Tourism Minister Suresh Rajan, Handlooms Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, Ad-Dravidar Welfare Minister Tamilarasi, Minister for Rural Industries and Animal Husbandry Pongalur N. Palanisamy, District Collector P. Umanath and Commissioner for Arts and Culture P.A. Mani inspected the entry point to CODISSIA Fair Grounds where an exhibition depicting the rich cultural heritage of Tamil language and race would be held and also the place for the internet conference. Arrangements for conduct of cultural events during the conference days were also reviewed.
Prior to the conference, as a run up to it, it has been proposed to organise cultural events on June 20, 21 and 22 by artists from Sangamam at Jail Grounds, Nanjappa Road – Handlooms expo ground, Gandhi Park and R.S. Puram Kalaiarangam. The arrangements at these venues were also reviewed.
Earlier, a review meeting was conducted which was attended by Assistant Director of Zonal Arts and Cultural Centre Hemanathan and City Police Commissioner P. Sivanandi.
Discussions were also on regarding conduct of food festival and cultural programmes on the floats that would form part of the conference rally. Efforts are on to conduct a book festival.
Later talking to reporters, Ms. Kanimozhi said that 700 artists would perform cultural programmes as a run up to the conference at 11 open places and in auditorium.
The Chief Minister had approved the plan for the conduct of the exhibition and the the entrance at the venue was being designed by film Art Director Thotta Tharani, who inspected the places and was making plans for designing a public-friendly entry and exit points. There would be an audio-visual light and sound show and the place for the same was also identified
