Settlement in outer space by 2025
COIMBATORE: “The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will have our mission of settlement in outer space by 2025. Satellite modules for this have already been tested. All nations must come together and participate in this programme,” M. Krishnasamy, Project Director, ISRO, Bangalore, said here recently.
Inaugurating “Trendz Livewire 2010”, an event organised at the Kumaraguru College of Technology, he said the second mission of Space Capsule Recovery Equipment (SRE) would be launched. “We need 20 astronauts for various missions and ISRO is gearing up. We are facing manpower shortage and The Indian Institute of Space Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, is helping us”.
Villages
Pointing out that the ISRO's space mission programmes were progressing smoothly, he said that the programmes had connected villages with super-speciality hospitals.
“The United Nations has appreciated this programme and has decided to implement it all over the world”.
“Edusat connects around 2,000 classrooms in engineering colleges. This interactive facility will be extended to primary and secondary education.
The remote sensing satellite system 8 gives details on crops and waste land monitoring. Hence, many applications have reached the common man.
There are many opportunities for students and the challenges in outer space can be studied with their help. We have to try to get resources from other planets as well as reach them,” Mr. Krishnasamy said.
