Coimbatore: District Collector P. Umanath has announced that people should inform respective panchayat presidents, Social Welfare Officers, Village Administrative Officers or women councillors if they get information on child marriages.

A release said that according to Child Marriages Prevention Act of 2009, a man can enter into marriage only after completion of 21 years and woman after 18 years.

A man who marries an under aged girl is liable for two years rigorous imprisonment or Rs. 1 lakh penalty, the release added.
