COIMBATORE: Regional Director of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Chennai, K.R. Anandha has urged bank customers to move to e-transactions.

Speaking at a cut notes and coin exchange mela organised by the City Union Bank here recently, he said that the RBI was celebrating platinum jubilee this year.

Its objective was to make the financial sector more vibrant and stable. The banking system was like veins of the human system. The RBI ensured that there was no disability or discomfort to the public.

At the platinum jubilee celebrations, the RBI thought it was necessary to reach out to the public and tell the customers the impact it had on the lives of the common man. Exchange of soiled notes was a step towards this objective. “All citizens should have clean currency notes and sufficient coins.” Huge amount was spent on printing new notes. There were six currency chests here in the nationalised banks. These facilities should give the public new notes and coins.

The public should make use of these facilities, he said.

Kaya Tripathy, RBI's (Chennai) Deputy General Manager, said the meeting was organised to create awareness among the public.

S. Balasubramanian, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the bank, said the RBI had come out with several programmes for the platinum jubilee programmes.

The exchange facility was a continuous programme at the bank.
