Coimbatore: The officials on Friday commenced the preliminary works for acquisition of 800 m land for laying a link road connecting the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex with the existing road leading to Saravanampatti.

In view of the World Classical Tamil Conference scheduled for June 2010, there had been a lot of efforts to create link roads and scheme roads to ease traffic congestion in the city. As part of the initiative, a road is being planned from CODISSIA creating another access from Saravanampatti road. A disjointed stretch needs to be linked for which 800 m of land was required.

Mayor R. Venkatachalam, Deputy Mayor N. Karthik, Corporation Commissioner, Anshul Mishra along with elected representatives visited the place.

Efforts are on to hold talks with the landowners through private negotiations to either compensate them with money or alternate land.

A meeting will be held with the landowners for working out the negotiations.

Once the private negotiations were worked out, estimates would be prepared and works would commence, the officials said.
