Coimbatore: Human Rights Organisation, in a memorandum to District Collector P. Umanath has said steps should be taken to construct a check dam in Thaliyur village in Thondamuthur at Anaimaduvu. M. Thangavelu, State Convenor (Western Tamil Nadu), said that the check dam would help prevent the run off water during rainy days and preserve it for distributing it to Vadavalli, Thaliyur, Thondamuthur, Veerakeralam, Vedapatti and Somayampalayam. A 500-acre plot is available near the western ghats where a check dam of 60 m to 70 m could be constructed, it said. M. Kannappan, a former MLA, had made some preliminary arrangements in 2005 for the same. The cost of construction of the dam would be hardly Rs. 1 crore.
