Coimbatore: With the burst in the Pilloor water supply mainline being plugged by a battery of workers who have been working for more than 72 hours, the authorities on Thursday night switched on all the four motors that pump water from the Main Service Reservoir to the City.

Corporation water supply officials confirmed that the water had reached the reservoir by Thursday evening. Assistant Engineer K. Karuppasamy said that there had been a steady increase in the flow of the water to the reservoir.

Officials expect the water supply to reach other overhead reservoirs by noon on Friday.

They are confident of resuming the supply in a staggered manner and ensuring streamlined supply by Saturday and Sunday.

Water supply was suspended on Tuesday following a breach in the pre-stressed concrete pipe.

The burst line has been replaced with a mild steel pipe. To avoid water hammer pressure in empty lines, authorities started switching on one motor after the other in a phased manner from Wednesday night.
