COIMBATORE: The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has informed the High Tension (HT) consumers that it will allot 50 per cent of the quantum opted by the consumers this month for peak hours.

Demand

In a circular to the Southern India Mills' Association, the board has said that supply of peak hour power to HT consumers based on reliability charges would be allotted to the tune of 50 per cent of the quantum opted by the willing HT consumers for March.

The board was trying to procure the required power from the market to meet the demand.

Increase supply

The association has appealed to the board to increase the supply during peak hours for this month.

An official of the board here told The Hindu that in January and February the board had sought the total power required by the units for peak hours.

For March and April, it asked for the minimum quantum that would be needed by the units for peak hours. In Coimbatore region, 624 HT services were supplied 98.12 MW for March.

Rural areas

The official added that in rural areas that had pre-dominantly agricultural connections, apart from the two hours load shedding every day, the board was supplying three phase power for six hours during day time and for four hours in the night. The consumers were receiving two phase power for the remaining hours. Now, the board was supplying three phase power for six hours during day time, two phase power for three hours and no power for the remaining three hours in day time.
