COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore Corporation plans to turn nearly 200 public toilets smell-free, including those in the integrated sanitary complexes constructed in areas where the below poverty line families live.

Ozone sterilisers will be installed in the toilets to rid these of smell.

Two sterilisers were installed on Wednesday in the public toilet at the Central Bus Stand on Dr. Nanjappa Road.

Corporation officials said two sterilisers in this toilet covered 10 urinals and eight western closets.

A block containing two sterilisers served 10 urinals and eight closets.

The cost of each block was Rs.19,000.

The cost included related provisions such as non-return valves.

The Corporation had placed orders for four more units, the officials said.

Mayor R. Venkatachalam, Deputy Mayor N. Karthik, Corporation Commissioner Anshul Mishra, South Zone Chairman P. Pynthamil and Health Committee Chairman P. Nachimuthu were present at the function organised to launch the facility.
