Joint effort to prevent electrocution of animals

( 0 Votes )

Coimbatore: Forest officials in Coimbatore joined hands with the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) to end electrocution of wild animals with special focus on pachyderms. The Conservator of Forests, Coimbatore Circle, R. Kannan and Divisional Forest Officer I. Anwardeen along with range officers had a joint meeting with the officials from TNEB in the rank of Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers and field staff to evolve ways to detect cases of direct power being fed into the fence to prevent straying of wildlife including pachyderms. It was also decided to have a joint inspection of forest boundaries to detect cases of direct power line feeds used on fence instead of solar power fencing. Villagers would be sensitized on the need for avoiding use of direct power.
