Humanism awards presented
Coimbatore: Humanism awards were presented to A. Suresh Venkatachalam, cancer surgeon, P.P. Job, Chairman of Michael Job Educational Institutions, A. Syed Sahabuddin of Kumaraguru College of Technology by the All Religious Affinity Movement (ARAM) for their service to community in their respective fields at the recently held inter-religious Pongal festival.
ARAM had been organising functions for Deepavali, Pongal, Christmas and Ramzan in order to bring people together cutting across caste, creed and religious beliefs.
Prof. Suryanarayanan gave a talk that made the audience not only laugh but also think.
Events
Chancellor of Avanashilingam University T.K. Shanmughanandam wanted more such events to be held to foster a peaceful social fabric with better understanding.
Mohammed Ziauddin, Assistant Sessions Judge, and P. Soundrajan, Syndicate Member of Annamalai University spoke.
ARAM Vice-President, K.M. Subramanian, J. Mohammed Rafi, President of Tamil Nadu All Religious Affinity Movement, A. Sikkander Basha, Joint Secretary and S. Basheer, Vice-President of ARAM and others also spoke.
Prizes to winners of various sports competitions held at Kumaramasamy Matriculation Higher Secondary School were given away in the presence of its Correspondent P. Rajkumar.
Silence observed
A minute silence was observed to mourn the victims of Haiti earthquake. Dr. P.P. Job also adopted a number of orphaned children from North-Eastern States.
