Gold medals for school students

COIMBATORE: Four students who scored high marks in the Plus-Two examinations and five in the Tenth examinations were awarded gold medals by the Coimbatore Corporation at the Republic Day celebrations it organised on Tuesday.

The Corporation gives medals and cash prizes to the students of the schools run by it for scoring high marks in the examinations. Five out of the nine gold medal winners were from the Corporation’s girls higher secondary school on Oppanakara Street.

Following are the gold medal winners (with the location of schools in brackets): Tenth examinations: First prize: K. Pavithra (Oppanakara Street), second prize: R. Akila (Oppanakara Street) and G. Mahalakshmi (S.R.P. Ammaniammal School, R.S. Puram), third prize: C. Revathi (S.R.P. Ammaniammal School) and G. Sathya Priya (Ranganathapuram).

Plus-Two: First prize: K. Rupini (Oppanakara Street), second prize: M. Keerthana (Ranganathapuram), third prize: R. Saranya (Oppanakara Street) and S. Gayathri (Oppanakara Street).

As many as 94 students got a cash prize of Rs.500 each for scoring 450 and above out of 500 in the Tenth Standard examinations and 11 got Rs.100 each for scoring a centum in a subject.

As for those in the Plus-Two category, 90 got a cash prize of Rs.1,000 each for scoring 1000 and above out of 1200 marks. Three students got Rs.100 each for scoring 200 out of 200 in a subject.

Mayor R. Venkatachalam and Corporation Commissioner Anshul Mishra gave away the medals, cash prizes and certificates. Deputy Mayor N. Karthik and Education Committee Chairman R. Kalyanasundaram among others were present.

Awards were also given to four conservancy workers (S. Senthamarai, K. Govindarajan, P. Arukkani and V. Thirumurthi), a sanitary supervisor (V.S. Selvaraj), two drivers (Yesudas and Paramasivam) and two urban health nurses (J. Isabella and T. Premalatha Sundaravadhana) for meritorious service.
