Gated communities to combat crime graph: CoP
Coimbatore: Gated communities could prove to be safe residential localities without being vulnerable to crime for which public co-operation is paramount, said P. Sivanandi, Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City on Saturday.
Mr. Sivanandi along with Deputy Commissioner of Police P. Nagarajan (Law and Order) inaugurated drop gates for sealing the entry and exit points in residential areas. He inaugurated 31 drop gates at Sungam Sivaram Nagar in Ramanathapuram Police limits, three in New York Nagar in Podanur, five in Chetty Veedhi, eight gates in Ponniahrajapuram and 12 in R.S. Puram area. Pointing out that Ram Nagar, where the concept was first introduced has become by and large a crime-free locality, Mr. Sivanandi said that in the first phase drop gates and community policing would be implemented in Singanallur, Peelamedu, Ramanathapuram, Saravanampatti, Kuniamuthur and Podanur police station limits. Gated communities and community policing is not a novel concept but a proven example with success stories, he added. Under this concept, many of the entry and exit points would be locked late in the night so that there would be very minimum entry and exit points which could be manned with private security personnel .
