Festival of Service by Helping Hearts
COIMBATORE: A rally to generate awareness on global warming, the planting of saplings and painting a school block were among the activities that were carried out by Helping Hearts, a voluntary organisation, as part of its month-long Festival of Service that concluded recently.
A press release from the organisation said 120 of its volunteers and students from various colleges took part in the programme. More than 1,000 saplings were planted at Mylampatti, Kalapatti, Andakapalayam and Sundarapuram near the city. A rally was taken out by students from Sivananda Colony to the V.O.C. Grounds to highlight the danger to the environment from global warming. The organisation opened a library at the Panchayat Union Middle School at Pappampatti. It provided books to the library and also spoke to the students on global warming. Another school at Melbaviyur at Karamadai was given a fresh coat of paint. A water purifier costing Rs.25,000 was provided to a panchayat school at Elavandivadukapalayam at Pongalur.
Eight poor students, including four with physical disabilities, were provided scholarship at Bharathi Matriculation School on Thadagam Road in the city. A medical camp was conducted at Melbaviyur, in association with PSG Hospital and Thulasi Pharmacy.
