The Tamilnadu state government on Friday released details of the expenditure for the recently held World Classical Tamil Conference in Coimbatore and said out of the allocated Rs 312.26 crore, only Rs 301.76 crore was spent for organizing the meet and for improving infrastructure.

The conference was held in Coimbatore from June 23 to 27, 2010. The government had sanctioned Rs 73 crore for the conduct of the World Tamil Conference 2010 and another Rs 239.26 crore for infrastructure works in Coimbatore. However, when accounts were tallied at the end of the meet, only Rs 69 crore was spent for the conduct of the conference and Rs 232.76 crore for improving infrastructure.

Infrastructure works taken up for the conference in Coimbatore include improvement of minor and major roads, completion of bridges, providing street lights, upgradation of highways and laying of power cables.
