Efforts on to provide power supply for hamlets

Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Electricity Board will be sent a proposal to the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to provide electricity to tribal hamlets situated along the Kerala border.

This was informed at a review meeting held by the District Collector, P. Umanath, along with District Forest Officer, I. Anwardeen, for taking stock of the progress achieved in Karamadai Panchayat Union especially in tribal hamlets such as Kethaikadu, Veerakkal, Korapathy, Kilpilloor and Keelchenganur.

These hamlets have been provided electricity by the TNEB. Whereas, Sundapatti, Koodapatti and Veppamarathur that are situated along Kerala needs to get its power supply from the KSEB.

Tamil Nadu Forest Department and Tamil Nadu Electricity Board have been advised to take forward the proposal. Tribals were informed that they could avail themselves agriculture loans from the Somayanur Panchayat Central Cooperative Bank. Collector agreed to consider a proposal for laying a 3-km stretch from Moolakkadu to Poolapathy.

To a grievance that tribal children had not been given bus pass, Collector said a proposal in this regard to the Government. Mr. Umanath said steps will be taken to provide e electricity under the concept of one light per house, house site, road improvement, group houses, maintenance of existing houses, street lights, concrete roads, street light maintenance, free power supply and even part time fair price shops.
