Drug sale: police step up drive in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Police have stepped up a drive focusing on drug stores, pharmaceutical houses and medical shops to prevent sale of drugs that had crossed the expiry date.
Following instances of drugs being sold after expiry date in the market and the Drug Control Department facing resistance, the police stepped in to supplement their efforts.
City Police Commissioner C. Sylendra Babu constituted four special teams each having an Inspector, one Sub-Inspector and two personnel in other ranks assisted by a Drug Inspector. On Wednesday, the teams searched 55 shops in the city. Following the drive, some of the shops remained closed while the other shops had no stock of medicines beyond expiry date. To sustain the efforts, the special teams continued the drive on Thursday focusing on the remaining shops.
The police along with Drug Inspectors raided medical shops on Friday also.
