Coimbatore: The cyber crime laboratory being set up by the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NAASCOM) for the Tamil Nadu police at the Police Academy is expected to become functional by May, said K. Purushothaman, Regional Director of NASSCOM.

Talking to The Hindu Mr. Purushottaman said that the laboratories have already become operational in Maharashtra and Karnataka. NASSCOM was on the job of finalising the laboratories for Kerala and Haryana, he said. After the laboratory becomes operational, NASSCOM has planned to impart training to police officers in the State on handling cyber crime cases over a period of 28 weeks.

The training would be basically on latest case studies, cases and technology in a bid to equip the police force to crack the emerging crimes in the cyber space. The training syllabi would vary depending on the rank and investigation roles entrusted to the police officers at various levels.

Without waiting for the laboratory at the Police academy, NASSCOM in association with Tamil Nadu Police had already reached out to the unit officers in the ranks of Inspectors and above across the State imparting training to officers and personnel on basic literacy on cyber space. NASSCOM was also concerned about ensuring perimeter and 24 hour security in the cyberspace by equipping the IT firms.
