Commandoes complete training
Coimbatore: Coimbatore City Police bags the distinction of having an exclusively trained commando force with 60 personnel, including nine women.
City Police Commissioner C. Sylendra Babu said that young police personnel were chosen for imparting training in building and vehicle interventions. They were imparted rigorous training in the last few weeks.
The commando force staged their skills at the police quarters at Uppilipalayam in the presence of Mr. Babu, Deputy Commissioners of Police P. Nagarajan (Law and Order) N. Kamini (Crime and Traffic), E.S. Uma (Headquarters), S. Sengodan (Armed Reserve). The demonstraion was done on a four-storey building.
The training included storming a hideout or a place where a crisis situation has arisen. Vehicle intervention is aimed at effective interception of vehicles used by terrorists even with a hostage. The training also included unarmed combat, handling of sophisticated weapons, detonation and defusing of explosives.
Mr.Babu said that the team would be kept in a state of readiness round-the-clock.The training would be sustained and refreshed periodically.
