COIMBATORE: The city corporation council held an emergency council meeting on Wednesday afternoon and passed as many as 35 proposals within an hour after the meeting commenced at 2.30pm at the council hall. Mayor SM Velusamy read out the proposals and passed them without any resistance from the council members in the AIADMK-dominated council. The city mayor claimed that the corporation would start supplying 30 mld of water from Pillur II dedicated water supply scheme in the coming days.

"The work is being completed and soon drinking water will be released from the project for the city residents in the coming days," said the mayor.

The other prominent proposals that were given clearance from the council include the construction of skywalks fitted with escalators at four prominent traffic spots, installation of LED street lights in the newly-added wards from the suburban areas, construction of electric crematoriums at Veerakeralam and Vadavalli. He said more proposals will be placed before the council catering to the infrastructure and basic amenity requirements of the suburban areas.
