Coimbatore: The executive committee of the Coimbatore Bar Association has resolved to request the Railway Minister to concede the long pending demands of this region in the Railway Budget.

President, P. Nandakumar and Secretary M. Anandan, in a release, pointed out that though Coimbatore continued to be the highest revenue spinner in the Southern Railway next to Chennai, it did not have adequate rail connectivity and infrastructure.

The meeting pointed out that train services to Chennai were proving to be inadequate considering the increasing passenger density on this sector. Hence, the Association wanted introduction of additional overnight and day time trains on the Coimbatore – Chennai sector.

In addition, Coimbatore also required overnight express trains to and from Bangalore, Tirupati, Tiruvananthapuram, Rameshwaram, Cuddalore and Puducherry. Similarly, in order to ease pressure on road traffic, the Bar Association sought trains between Coimbatore and Mettupalayam and Coimbatore and Erode.

The Association also sought allocation of adequate funds for the Coimbatore – Irugur line doubling work as well as the Coimbatore – Dindigul gauge conversion work.
