Coimbatore: City Police Commissioner P. Sivanandi has announced that six-lane system on Avanashi Road will be enforced strictly from Wednesday.

Mr. Sivanandi said that based on public feedback, suggestions, changes were introduced to make it motorist- friendly. Conceding public demand, lane system was modified with two-wheelers next to the centre median, followed by cars and two-wheelers and buses on the last lane towards the extreme road boundary. This was done to enable the buses to access the bus bays and bus stops easily.

Mr. Sivanandi also said that to facilitate the convenience of the motorists , a number of bus stops had been relocated. However, the compliance to the initiative remained very poor.

Hence, in the last four or five days using public address systems at signals , the motorists have been sensitised. Violating motorists would be penalised, he said.
