An initiative to help rural population
Coimbatore: Mahatma Service Centre, with an agri-clinic, a health centre and a youth centre, was inaugurated by SAN Business School in association with Universal Brotherhood Association and Odaiyappa Medical College and Hospital recently at Pudhupathi Village near Walayar.
Exposure
The centre aims at enhancing the living conditions of the rural population by providing them with the required exposure and knowledge.
G. Nammalwar, Organic Scientist and Founder President of Vanagam, inaugurated the agri-clinic which would help farmers gain knowledge about the new and better methods of farming.
Experiments
He said experiments were essential to gain the experience that leads to learning and exhorted students to experiment with newer ideas to get to better understand the needs of the rural population.
He exhorted students to learn about various agricultural modules and prepare a seasonal map that would help farmers plan ahead.
He also said that the villagers should be taught to turn waste into useful organic manure.
Youth should take up baseline survey for better understanding of the nature of farming to be practiced in the locality.
The Youth Centre is aimed at uplifting the rural youth and to encourage the local community in problem solving.
The centre would focus on education and other development activities.
Health care
Improving access to health care and education in rural areas would greatly benefit their families and their communities.
Hence, SAN International Business School along with Odaiyappa Medical College decided to start the health centre which would help the villagers overcome ailments and help them lead a healthy life.
The centre was inaugurated by O. Kannappan of Odaiyappa Medical College and Hospitals.
T. Jayalakshmi, Chairman of SAN Academy; Murali, Secretary of Vanagam; Mathivanan, Resident Medical Officer of Odaiyappa Medical College; and K. Nanthini, Principal SAN International Business School, spoke.
Dr. Nammalwar also had a meeting with students and sought to promote organic farming.
He also exhorted the farmers to start model farming in and around Pudhupathi village.
Students will be trained and then sent to train the farmers in natural farming practices, he said.
