South India Engineering Manufacturers' Association (SIEMA) was founded in the year 1952 by late Prof.G.R.Damodaran of PSG Industrial Institute, Coimbatore. SIEMA represents the engineering companies engaged in manufacturing of motors, pumps, compressors, valves, starters, switches, foundry, engines, and textile machinery.

SIEMA conducts technical seminars and workshops on various topics on general engineering and pump motor industry. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and SIEMA regularly conducts awareness seminars on Quality Standards. SIEMA also promotes exhibitions to enable buyers and sellers to benefit from exposure.

Si'Tarc

Small Industries' Testing And Research Centre (Si'Tarc), Coimbatore was promoted in the year 1987 by SIEMA jointly with CODISSIA. Financial assistance was provided by Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI). Si'Tarc functions at state of the art facility with about 2 acres of land is a Government of India recognised Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO). Si'Tarc provides Quality Testing for Motors, Compressors and other appliances.

SIEMA members represent various government advisory and action committees and contribute in tax related matters, industrial relations and setting up standards alongwith BIS. SIEMA along with BIS has drafted standards for various motors and pumps for the benefit of the industry.
