The ninth World Classical Tamil Conference (Ulaga tamizh Chemmozhi Manadu ) is to be held in Coimbatore for five days from June 23rd to June 27th, 2010. The President of India, Mrs. Pratheeba Patil will be inaugurating the World Tamil conference in the forenoon. A commemorative stamp will be issued during the valedictory function.

The World Tamil conference will be conducted in various stages in Kovai starting from the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex, Avinashi Road, Coimbatore. Literary conferences and seminars are to be held in 25 different stages. Tamil literary researchers from over forty countries have registered for the conference.

A procession is planned from VOC Grounds to the CODISSIA Complex on the last day which displays the ancient tamil culture and tradition. Floats depicting the rich culture and heritage of Tamil and its legacies would also form part of this three-km rally. The Chief Minister, leaders and foreign delegates would witness the procession en route.One side of Avanashi Road would be earmarked for the public to witness this procession.

A marathon has also been planned from various parts of Tamilnadu as a part of the World Tamil Conference which would bring in the participation of school and college students, artists and tamil lovers alike.Essay writing, poetry writing, oratorical competitions will be conducted and attractive cash prizes and awards are to be issued.

The whole of Coimbatore is being metamorphosed to cater to the needs of the upcoming Ulaga tamizh Chemmozhi Manadu. One can easily witness the development activities being carried in and around Coimbatore. Trichy road, Avinashi road and Mettupalayam road are being widened; The connecting roads are also being laid again; Chemmozhi Park has been established in central Coimbatore as a memorial; Food courts, stay areas and other such facilities are being built. The work for these are done all through the day and is expected to be over by the end of may.

On the whole the World Classical Tamil Conference is turning out to be a boon to Coimbatore for sure and there wont be any heads that would not be turned towards Coimbatore in a month.
